Transporting sheets of glass is a precarious and sometimes shattering experience. It needs a specific structure to hold it fast to the vehicle that is transporting it. Not only does the structure of the rigging have to absorb the bumps and turns required to make it across town without breaking its package but it also has to be strong enough to not flex with wind factors and cornering G forces.
The Welding Shop Calgary created this aluminum rigging or carriage, to defy the onslaught of the forces of nature and the man made perils of city streets to get its cargo safely to it’s destination.

A gantry, according to the web, is a bridge-like overhead structure with a platform supporting equipment such as a crane, railroad signals, lights, or cameras. You may also have this word indelibly etched in your mind from the glorious days of rockets and NASA and going to the moon when every astronaut had to walk a gantry to get into the command module before blasting off.
At the Welding Shop Calgary we have never made a gantry for NASA but we have made enough industrial use gantry’s for everything from oil field rig applications to high rise widow washer platforms. Remember this giant cross project. When we last posted about it it was still in our shop awaiting it’s protective colour coating.
Now we are so happy to see it installed at it’s new home in one of our local Calgary schools.
